Located in the Chelsea Historic District, this project sought a seamless balance between historically sensitive restoration and modern day home. The front entryway and façade of this once great 19th century row house had all but been erased by decades of poor alterations. An extensive renovation of the front entryway included the design and installation of historically appropriate ironwork, restoration of brownstone curbing and replacement of oversized bluestone pavers. A complete restoration of the building façade restored the once lost original brownstone detailing and a historically appropriate cornice.

To accommodate the needs of the clients, a slight departure was made from a strict interpretation of the historic architecture. Steps leading to the basement entrance were widened to allow for easy bike access and a radiant heating system was installed at the front stoop to counteract New York’s winter months.
