In 1994, RKLA worked closely with the Church’s Garden Committee to develop a master plan for this treasured garden space. The Church, designed in the early 1970s by Edgar Tafel following the loss of the original pre-Civil War church from fire, features an interior courtyard. The courtyard was designed by RKLA as an urban oasis that also serves as a year-round viewing garden from the church lobby. Circular stonework patterning in the courtyard features a Saint John’s Cross as the centerpiece. Two bronze crosses, discovered during excavation of the site and thought to be original to the landmarked church, were restored and mounted on the garden walls.
