St. Patrick's Cathedral
|
In December 2007, RKLA was awarded the commission for the design of the Bicentennial Garden at St. Patrick’s Cathedral. Situated in the heart of Midtown Manhattan, the grandeur of the Cathedral’s Gothic architecture stands as one of the City’s most recognizable landmarks. The Bicentennial Garden will serve as a destination for the Cathedral’s visiting public and staff, seamlessly knitting together the architecture with the site’s surrounding landscape. The Bicentennial Garden is part of the ongoing Parish House Restoration and Renovation project at St. Patrick’s Cathedral. The project, which is in its conceptual development phase, will require landmarks approval and is seeking LEED certification as part of its sustainable agenda. In addition to the Bicentennial Garden project, RKLA has been commissioned by the Cathedral to direct the restoration of its perimeter gardens. The restoration and renovation of the Cathedral’s perimeter gardens and grounds will serve as a tangible gift to the City of New York, its residents and visitors, through the enhancement of Midtown Manhattan’s greenspace.
