Gareth Mahon offers his unique background in the fields of engineering and urban design to the studio. He received a Master’s degree in Urban Design from the City College of New York and holds a degree in Engineering from the University of Glasgow, Scotland.

Gareth’s interest in urban design has led to many interesting projects and design recognition. In 2006, Gareth was selected as the winner of the Williamsburg Waterfront Design Competition. This project was featured in Topos’ 2007 Urban Space issue in an article entitled, “Beyond the Familiar: The Search for Urban Space in New York City”. The project also won a 2010 NY ASLA award (view here as a pdf). Gareth is currently involved in the publishing of a book that focuses on his research in Ecuador. This project represents a continuation of his graduate research work in which he explored sustainable urban design for Nueva Loja, a city in Ecuador’s Amazon Basin.

Prior to joining RKLA, Gareth served as the European Technical Services Manager for a global organization based in his native Ireland. He has also worked as a consultant specializing in website and graphic design.
